Description

Located in the Parish of St. Ann, Jamaica, 9 Mile Village is known for its market, but better known as the birthplace of Bob Marley, the legendary King of Reggae, and where he was laid to rest.

On this tour you’ll visit the Bob Marley mausoleum, which is managed by members of Marley’s family. This popular tourist attraction features many historical artifacts including his guitars, awards he received, and photographs of events throughout his life.

One highlight of the site is the rock pillow where Marley rested his head when seeking inspiration for his music. His body lies buried along with his guitar in a marble mausoleum inside a tiny church of traditional Ethiopian design.

There are 2 mausoleums on the property. The first is Mama Marley’s, and the other entombs Marley as well as his half-brother. Bob’s crypt is on the top, and his brother lies in a tomb below. It was Mama Marley’s wish that the brothers be buried together.

Nine-Mile is the birthplace of Jamaica’s reggae icon Robert (Bob) Nesta Marley. The tour history reveals Bob Marley was born during world war 2 and grew up with a Jamaican mother in a small cottage until he was 13 years old. The tour guides are all Rastafarians and you will better understand the true history of the Rastafarian culture, his songs so deeply rooted about Jamaica’s independence in 1962, oppression, survival, slavery, and his songs linked to Marcus Garvey and our African heritage.
